Baby Tracker Guide for Parents: Sleep, Feeds & Nappies

When was the last feed? How long was that nap? A baby tracker gives parents one place to record these everyday details. This guide shows how to build a useful baby diary without making record-keeping another full-time job.

Start with the questions you actually ask

Choose two or three things you most often need to remember: when your baby last woke, the last feed, or a nappy change. You can add other records later. A diary is useful when it makes a handover easier or saves you from searching through messages, not when every field is filled in.

What to record in a baby tracker

For sleep, record the start and end of a nap or night sleep. For a feed, note the type and, when relevant, the duration or bottle amount. For a nappy, record the change and type. A short note can add context, such as “fell asleep in the pushchair”. Keep observations separate from guesses about why something happened.

A simple routine for the first day

Add the entry when convenient. Start a timer when the activity starts and stop it when it finishes, or enter it afterwards. If a time is approximate, say so in the note. Before saving, check the date and whether the activity crossed midnight. Missing an entry does not make the whole day unusable.

Share the diary, rather than duplicate the work

Invite your partner or another caregiver to the same child’s diary. Agree who records each activity, so both people do not add the same feed. With an internet connection, check that the latest entries have synced before handing over care. Each parent can use their own phone; the shared record provides context for the next person.

Look for context before drawing conclusions

Review a few days together instead of treating one short nap as a complete pattern. Check for missing entries and notes that explain a different day. An empty part of the timeline means you may have no record; it does not prove the baby stayed awake or did not feed. Use the diary to prepare clear questions, not to diagnose a problem.

Make it useful for your family

SweetWonder brings baby sleep, feeding, nappies and growth into a diary for iPhone and Android. Start with the daily timeline, then explore a sleep plan or shared care if you need them. Avoid adding more logging just to complete a checklist. The best routine is one your family can maintain comfortably.

A fictional morning in a baby diary

These times are a logging example, not a recommended schedule or feeding interval.

  1. 06:55Wake-up recorded
  2. 07:10Feed recorded, with the details the parent wants to keep
  3. 09:25Nap started
  4. 10:25Nap ended — one hour recorded

Try this today: agree with the other caregiver which records matter, log a few activities and review the timeline together. Adjust what you track to the questions you want answered.
